Code of Ethics

As a member of the American Tarot Association, I subscribe to their Code of Ethics which can be found here.  In addition, my own Code of Ethics is as follows:

As an ethical reader of the Tarot,  I will:

Honesty

  • Insure that my clients understand that all outcomes or future situations presented in a Tarot reading are only potential outcomes based on the current circumstances – the true and complete unfolding of their future will depend on the decisions and actions they take of their own free will which they have both the right and responsibility to exercise.

  • Always tell the truth as I see it in the reading, and present it in a useable and understandable way.

  • Not impose information on a client that they have clearly indicated that they do not wish to know or explore further in depth.

  • Clearly show that cautionary and positive messages are two sides of the same coin.

  • Honestly and unhesitatingly state when I am unable to interpret the cards.

Empowerment

  • Conduct every  reading for the highest good of my client.

  • Encourage my clients to participate in the reading process, including asking questions during the reading at at any later time.

  • Strive to make every reading an empowering and supportive experience.

  • Make every attempt to empower my clients to make their own choices in their lives.

  • Not allow my clients to become overly dependent on my services.

Respect

  • Treat each client and their questions with respect and compassion.

  • Respect the religious beliefs, spiritual path, and lifestyle of each client.

  • Strive to be non-judgmental, and unbiased in the course of a reading.

  • Respect the right of my clients to terminate a reading at any time.

Value

  • Give my client the best insights, understandings, and explanations of the reading of which I am capable.

  • Provide readings that are compassionate, responsible, offer solutions to problems, and give clarity and insight to my clients.

  • Give my client my full attention when doing a reading.

  • Suggest that the question be rephrased or respectfully decline to do the reading if it is not possible to answer a question without actual or potential harm to the client or others.

Expertise

  • Recommend that my clients consult a licensed professional for advice of a legal, financial, medical, or psychological nature that I am not qualified to provide.

  • Refer my clients to appropriate professionals if their questions or situations are outside my realm of expertise.

  • Attempt to help my client make contact with appropriate resources if the situation is urgent.

Confidentiality and Privacy

  • Keep the content of a reading and all information my clients share with me in total confidence, except in the case of a life-threatening situation to self or others, or if required to be disclosed by a court of law.

  • Read only for the situation or question of the client who is requesting my services.

  • Not perform a reading in order to gain information or insight on what someone other than my client may be thinking, feeling, or doing (also known as a third party reading).

Right to Refuse

  • Reserve the right to refuse to do a reading or to stop a reading at any time if I feel that either my client or I will be in danger as a result of doing the reading, or if I discover that my client is being dishonest about the intent of their question, or if the reading will violate my personal ethics.

Professionalism

  • Truthfully represent my training, qualifications and professional associations regarding the Tarot.

  • Only offer those services I am capable of rendering.

  • Not pressure or coerce my clients to engage me for future readings or other services .

  • Not "second-guess" the readings or work of any other intuitive professional.

  • Only do readings when I am able to devote my complete attention and energy to them.

  • Not use the Tarot cards to “tell fortunes” or predict the exact course of your future.

  • Not knowingly read for a person under the age of 18 without permission of a Parent or Legal Guardian.

  • Always ask for feedback on my services to help improve them.

Payment

  • Insure that all fees are clearly stated and agreed before beginning the reading.

  • Not accept payment if my client is totally dissatisfied with the reading.

  • Return my compensation if I refuse to do or complete a reading.
